Monarchs Edge Hawks, 3-2
|
The Monarchs had to overcome a fine effort from Boise pitcher Hideo Nomo Jr. to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Basque Block Field. Nomo Jr. went 7.2 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Marysville reliever Chad McCarty was the winner. His record is now 6-6. The losing pitcher was Hideo Nomo Jr.. Aaron Lentz was called on to finish, recording his 20th save.
It could have been a different outcome for Marysville, had it not been for Hector Nieves, the 25-year old shortstop . Nieves contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put Marysville up, 3-2.
Afterward, Monarchs manager Stan Cheslin was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The current losing streak for Boise has reached 4 games.
