The Boise Hawks got a sterling performance from pitcher Carlos Munoz, but the Niagara Falls Pipe Fitters still prevailed, 6-4. Munoz threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs. Reliever Pete Wood picked up the win. His record improves to 3-5. Tony Melara took the loss. Steve Hoefling notched his 8th save in 10 chances.

Greenwood Village, Colorado-born Jack Johns came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Pipe Fitters trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Niagara Falls on top.

"I was hoping to make good contact," said Johns. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."

The Hawks, now 56-56, have lost 4 in a row.
