Seagulls Turn Back Evanston, 5-3
|
The Clearwater Seagulls defeated the Evanston Bishops, 5-3. Shortstop Luis Cazares deserved a large share of the credit. Cazares went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs for the Seagulls. Rodolfo de Gante earned the save for Clearwater. The Seagulls move to 84-46 with the win, while the Bishops drop to 79-52.
The Seagulls got a big boost from center fielder David Kulhanek who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Bishops hurler Howard Garnier. It was his 29th walk of the season and put Clearwater on top, 1-0.
Cazares attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
