A good performance from catcher Tony Alvarez helped the Evanston Bishops defeat the Niagara Falls Pipe Fitters, 3-2. Alvarez was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Bishops. Symão Alegro picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-11. He struck out 4 in 7 innings. Evanston now sits at 51-55, while Niagara Falls falls to 50-56.
With Evanston leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Alvarez hit a slider from Wu-shiun Kim for a 2-run double. It was his 8th double of the season and put the Bishops ahead, 3-0.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Alvarez.
