Close Win Moves Cornhuskers to 47-59
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers dumped the Spokane Bulldogs, 5-4, in large part due to first baseman Walt Coffin. On the day, Coffin was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs for the Cornhuskers. DeKalb reliever John Kibler picked up the win, upping his record to 2-4. Zbynek Petruzalek absorbed the loss. Gerald Bosma collected his 7th save.
Had Marshall Blumberg not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Blumberg hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Cornhuskers.
Afterward, Spokane manager said: "We've hit a rough patch."
The losses continue to mount for Spokane, which has now dropped 6 in a row.
