Boston Beats DeKalb, 6-2
|
Boston beat DeKalb on the strength of starting pitcher John Spears's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-2. Spears got the win, improving to 10-8. He gave up 6 hits and walked 4 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs. The Whitecaps are now 62-41, while the Cornhuskers fall to 45-58.
John Day had a big 2-run home run for the Whitecaps in the top of the second inning. With Boston leading 3-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Bobby Avelar, who is tied for 9th in the TAA in holds with 5, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Whitecaps on top, 5-0.
"We didn't play well enough to win," said DeKalb skipper Kinnojo Hara.
