Slice Deal Earthquakes 5-4 Setback
|
The Manhattan Slice grabbed a win, 5-4, over the San Francisco Earthquakes at Copps Park. Manhattan center fielder Willie Romero was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Manhattan reliever Gebre-Selassie Afiba picked up the win, while Ethan Pollard took the loss for San Francisco. Josh Showalter, who finished 3rd in the RCL in saves with 35 last year, earned the save for Manhattan.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Romero delivered big-time for Manhattan, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Ethan Pollard. The game-changing hit put the Slice on top, 5-3.
Romero was taciturn after the game. "A win's a win," he said.
The third-place Slice improved to 20-18.
