Earthquakes Tag Pioneers with 8-1 Loss
The San Francisco Earthquakes outclassed the Vancouver Pioneers, 8-1, at "The Fort" at B.C. Place. Jim Sheesley, who is a three-time All-Star, was a major contributor for San Francisco. Sheesley went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. San Francisco pitcher Alexis Ochoa got the win. He's now 1-0. Ricky Plasencia was tagged with the loss. At 3-1, the Earthquakes have played well so far.

The Pioneers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Earthquakes going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old center fielder Bill Shook came to the plate. Shook hit a bases-clearing triple on a 0-1 fastball from Vancouver hurler Ricky Plasencia. It was Shook's 1st triple of the year.

"We came in and did what we needed to do," said San Francisco manager Bill DesMarais.
