Madison got a decent performance from pitcher Josh Steventon, but it wasn't enough to beat the Clearwater Seagulls. Clearwater won the The Hive contest, 7-6. Steventon threw 8.0 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Clearwater reliever Joe Sargent picked up the win to move to 1-0. Carlos Serrato suffered the loss. Clearwater has won 3 straight, while Madison has lost 4 in a row.

Gary Pollock delivered a big hit for Clearwater. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Seagulls ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"It was a solid team effort," Pollock said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
