Rose, Mountaineers Wallop Hawks, 10-1
|
The Black Mountain Mountaineers used an offensive barrage to beat the Boise Hawks, 10-1, at Basque Block Field. Mike Rose led the way, going 3-for-4 for Black Mountain. Greg Spivey picked up the win, lifting his record to 5-8 on the season. He struck out 6 and walked 6 in 8 innings, while yielding 1 run. Boise is in the throes of a long losing streak, which is now 9 games.
The game turned with one out in the top of the fourth. That's when Rose hit a 3-run home run off Anton Ayala. It propelled the Mountaineers into the lead, 4-1.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Mountaineers manager Mario Encarnación, "I like our chances."
