Black Bears Upend Wolverines, 5-2
|
The Fraser Valley Black Bears defeated the Wichita Wolverines, 5-2, at Howling Park. Lance Harding, who is tied for 7th in the TAA in stolen bases with 8, was a standout performer for Fraser Valley. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 3 he knocked in. Picking up the win was Jonathan Emory. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The left--hander struck out 3 and walked 3. Armando Gimenez was credited with the save for Fraser Valley, his 24th of the season.
With Fraser Valley trailing 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Harding hit a fastball from Arturo Romero for a bases-clearing double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Black Bears ahead, 4-2.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Abel Keller.
The triumph puts Fraser Valley at 41-35 for the season.
