Pipe Fitters Win at Windsor, 6-2
|
Niagara Falls pitcher Jon Wambach had a large part in his team subduing the Windsor Royals, 6-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. In 8.2 innings, Wambach surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. D.J. Handrahan sewed up the save, his 4th.
Niagara Falls used a clutch at-bat from Dan Hernandez to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Pipe Fitters ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Hernandez told a Niagara Falls Daily News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The third-place Pipe Fitters now have a record of 42-31.
