Tight Tilt Goes to Black Bears, 2-1

The Fraser Valley Black Bears and Beaumont Drillers played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
The Fraser Valley Black Bears, behind a great outing from Jeff Hair, who leads the TAA with a 9.7 K/9 rate, defeated the Beaumont Drillers, 2-1, at The Stetson Bowl. Hair got the win, improving to 6-4. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 6.2 innings. He allowed no runs.
Rick Chapman took Beaumont hurler Steve Surprenant deep in the bottom of the fourth. His 2-run home run put the Black Bears on top, 2-0. In all, Chapman had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"We were in it," said Beaumont manager Takuzo Kaneshiro. "We just didn't score enough runs."
The Black Bears, at 50-34, sit in second place in the TML AA Bruce Bochy Division.
