Beaumont got a terrific game from third baseman Joe Phelan. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Sandy Springs, 7-6. Phelan went 1-2 with a home run and 3 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The third-place Spartans improved to 43-35.

Jeremy Tipton was the walk-off hero for Sandy Springs. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Spartans pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"I felt good up there," said Tipton. "I saw the ball well."
