Monarchs Score Late to Nip Canucks, 5-4
|
The Marysville Monarchs outlasted the Moose Jaw Canucks in an extra-inning thriller.
The Marysville Monarchs stopped the Moose Jaw Canucks, 5-4, in 11 innings at Mitts Fieldhouse. The Monarchs got a big game from Philip Long, who was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Marysville reliever Brandon Martin was the winner. His record is now 5-4. Mike Traver took the loss.
The game was decided with no one out in the bottom of the 11th. With Marysville trailing 4-3, Long jumped on a fastball from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Mike Traver and hit a 2-run home run to left. With one swing, the Monarchs had a walk-off win.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Long said in his postgame press conference.
The first-place Canucks now sit at 45-23.
