Black Bears Win 6th Straight, Take Down Cornhuskers, 7-3
|
The Fraser Valley Black Bears bested the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 7-3, at The Stetson Bowl. Josh Wheeler was one of the standouts. He went 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. Jeff Hair, the winner, is now 3-4. He struck out 8 and walked 5 over 5.2 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. The 5th-place Black Bears have won 6 in a row.
Angel Perez had a big 2-run triple for the Black Bears in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Fraser Valley leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Jamie Murat and swatted a triple to right. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Black Bears ahead, 5-2.
"When their pitchers are leaving stuff over the heart of the plate, we're not missing it," said Fraser Valley manager Albert Giles.
