The bats were silent much of the day at The Corn Crib. But 20-year old catcher George Cronin produced just enough offense to carry the Cornhuskers past the Evanston Bishops, 3-1. Cronin went 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The 6th-place Cornhuskers improved to 24-29.

Cronin had a key at-bat for DeKalb in the bottom of the second. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and gave DeKalb an early 3-0 lead.

Cronin called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
