Royals Trump Bulldogs, 4-1
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Windsor Royals and Spokane Bulldogs.
The Windsor Royals downed the Spokane Bulldogs, 4-1, at The Kennel. Stellar pitching by Matt Jones had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the RAA in innings pitched with 84.2, handcuffed his opponent all game. Greg Pond, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 10th save.
Windsor used the timely hitting of Esteban Soto to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Makes our job easier," said Soto, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
The Royals, at 39-23, sit in second place in the RCL AA Gene Mauch Division.
