Steelheads Bedevil Cornhuskers, 8-7
|
The Roaring River Steelheads had to overcome a big game from DeKalb first baseman Bill McGrath to leave The Corn Crib with a victory. And they did, winning, 8-7. McGrath went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs. By defeating DeKalb, the 4th-place Steelheads improved to 29-31.
Roaring River used the timely hitting of Jeff Martin to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Steelheads on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Martin told a Roaring River Times reporter that the win made him feel "upbeat about our team."
