The Sandy Springs Spartans defeated the Fraser Valley Black Bears, 4-3, at The Stetson Bowl. Sandy Springs left fielder Tobias Garcia was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3-4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs. The winner was Colin Bower in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Brian Campbell took the loss. Sandy Springs is now 31-24, while Fraser Valley is 28-28.
Garcia contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for Sandy Springs in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-1, Garcia took a changeup from Brian Campbell and stroked the double to left. His 10th double of the season allowed the Spartans to leap in front, 4-3.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Fraser Valley manager Jesús Morán. "But we decided not to take it."
