Monarchs Rebuff Spartans, 3-2
|
The Marysville Monarchs faced a tough opponent in Sandy Springs pitcher Dan Giffen, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Mitts Fieldhouse by a final score of 3-2. Giffen went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Marysville reliever Wilson Cervantes picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Dan Giffen took the loss. Despite the win, the Monarchs have a lousy 14-41 record.
The Monarchs beat the Spartans in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Will Ortis produced in the bottom of the seventh. Batting against Dan Giffen, Ortis gave his team the lead, 3-2, when he hit a 2-run single.
"I still have a lot of confidence in this team," Marysville manager Angel Gareia said afterward.
