Black Bears Clip Cornhuskers, 3-2
|
The Fraser Valley Black Bears took DeKalb pitcher Mike DeGraffenried's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Corn Crib. The final score had Fraser Valley getting past the Cornhuskers, 3-2. DeGraffenried went 7.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 7. Tommy Spezia earned the save for Fraser Valley, his 7th of the year. Fraser Valley is sailing along at 38-15.
The Black Bears got a big at-bat from right fielder Randy Herber. For the game, Herber was 1 for 4 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 2nd triple of the season gave Fraser Valley a 2-0 lead.
"Bottom line," said DeKalb skipper Keith Allen, "we didn't play well enough to win."
