Sandy Springs Sent Home with 6-4 Loss
|
The Black Mountain Mountaineers picked up a win at Peak Park, knocking off the Sandy Springs Spartans, 6-4. On the mound for Black Mountain was left-hander Andy Nixon. He played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Nixon, now 1-2. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 7. Ron Larson earned the save, his 3rd.
Black Mountain shortstop Dan White contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a cutter to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 31st hit of the season and put the Mountaineers ahead, 4-1.
Afterward, Sandy Springs manager Rafael Alonso said: "We've hit a rough patch."
Their 16-23 record puts the Mountaineers 6th in the RCL AA Gene Mauch Division.
