Niagara Falls Jukes Past Clearwater, 13-10
|
Larry Stagg added some punch to the Niagara Falls offense, helping them outmuscle the Clearwater Seagulls, 13-10. In the game, Stagg was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Dave Wenzel, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. The save went to Steve Hoefling, his 3rd this season.
Niagara Falls used the timely hitting of Melvin Baca to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pipe Fitters on top, 9-8. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Niagara Falls manager Jonathan Kelly.
The Pipe Fitters have hit the ground running, raising their record to 18-7. While it's still too soon to talk about Niagara Falls hoisting their 3rd League Championship Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
