Spartans Nipped, 5-2, by Fraser Valley
|
The Fraser Valley Black Bears scooped up a win at The Coliseum, dumping the Sandy Springs Spartans, 5-2. Wayne Balaski, who is rated as the 34th best prospect by BNN, was essential to his team's success. Balaski, now 2-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Steve Noonan got the save, the 6th for him this season.
Fraser Valley used the timely hitting of Brian Burgess to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Black Bears on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Wayne is good at sticking to his strengths," said Fraser Valley manager Albert Giles.
The win lifts Fraser Valley to a record of 10-9.
