Storm Troopers Lose, 5-3, at The Corn Crib
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers stopped the San Antonio Storm Troopers, 5-3, at The Corn Crib. The Cornhuskers got a big game from Alejandro Mata, who went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. DeKalb reliever Caleb Caddell was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Danny Ferry. The save was credited to John Kelley, his 4th.
John Bartoletti had a big 2-run single for the Cornhuskers in the bottom of the first inning. With DeKalb leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from Danny Ferry and stroked the single to left. It was his 18th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cornhuskers ahead, 3-0.
Bartoletti called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The win brings the Cornhuskers to 8-11, a soft start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
