Dawson Goes Wild, But Red Bulls Win
|
Ashton Gate was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Riverside Red Bulls and the Moose Jaw Canucks.
Moose Jaw shortstop Andreas Dawson was sensational. He went 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Riverside beat the Canucks, 7-6. Dawson was named the player of the game despite the loss. Riverside reliever Ernesto Suriel picked up the win to move to 1-0. Juan Flores suffered the loss. Joe Simonis earned the save, his 6th, for the Red Bulls.
Riverside needed the clutch hitting of Grant Wegner to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Red Bulls on top, 7-6. For the game, Wegner had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We got the victory," said Wegner. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
Moose Jaw, at 6-14, is off to a poor start in 2044.
