Cornhuskers Win Squeaker, 3-2, Over Black Bears
|
The bats were silent much of the day at The Stetson Bowl. But 24-year old second baseman Frank Torres produced just enough offense to carry the Cornhuskers past the Fraser Valley Black Bears, 3-2. Torres went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Chris Schurman picked up the save for DeKalb, his 1st of the year. DeKalb, with the win, is 2-0.
Had Torres not come through in the top of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Torres hit a run-scoring single. The Cornhuskers took the lead, 3-2, and never looked back.
Torres called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
