Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Wichita Wolverines were eager to watch Arturo Romero square off against Scott Horner of the visiting Carson City Mustang. In the end, the Mustang won the game, 12-9, with Tom Nelis leading the way. Jason Puliafico snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Bill Rodriguez suffered the loss.

Carson City grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Nelis hit a 3-run home run off Arturo Romero. His 2nd home run of the season put the Mustang out in front, 5-2.

"I just tried to put the barrel on it," said Nelis.
