Cornhuskers Edge Indians, 3-2
|
Fans of the DeKalb Cornhuskers who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a DeKalb win over the visiting Wauwatosa Indians, 3-2. Joey Lizotte started for the home team against Danny Gregory. Joey Lizotte earned accolades for his performance. The winning pitcher was Lizotte, now 1-0. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7.
Had Tony Alvarez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Alvarez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Cornhuskers.
Alvarez called it "a solid win."
