Sanders Lifts Raiders to 6-4 Triumph
|
A 5-RBI performance from the 25-year old left fielder Steve Sanders helped the Reno Raiders beat the Detroit Death Stars, 6-4. Orlando Cordoba got the win, improving to 11-11. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Kai-ge Ching closed the game out for Reno, earning his 14th save.
Sanders contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Reno in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Sanders took a fastball from Nick Davidson and stroked the home run to left. His 14th home run of the season allowed the Raiders to leap in front, 5-2.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Raiders manager Brian Travis. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
With the win, Reno goes to 64-98, while the Death Stars fall to 85-77.
