Firebirds Suffer One-Run Loss at Peoria
The Peoria Caterpillars weathered a fine game by Albany left fielder Nick Simmons to upend the Firebirds, 5-4, at Excavatar Park. Simmons went 1-2 with 3 walks. The win belonged to Harry Cronin in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Brady Metro took the loss for Albany. Mike Kalk was credited with the save, his 2nd in 3 tries.

The Caterpillars got a big at-bat from shortstop Dan Werba. For the game, Werba went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Peoria a 4-1 lead.

Said Peoria manager Scott Andrews: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."

The win for the Caterpillars raised their record to 74-62.
