Late Rally by Freeze Locks Up 3-1 Win
|
The Minneapolis Freeze, despite a fine performance by Joplin pitcher Nate Lefkowitz, grabbed a 3-1 win at The Firepit. Lefkowitz allowed 1 run over 6 innings. Eric Long notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Brian Sorensen earned the save for Minneapolis, his 6th of the year.
Minneapolis needed the clutch hitting of Bobby Shaw to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Freeze on top, 2-1. For the game, Shaw had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Tough loss," said Joplin manager Wade Marone. "But we'll learn from it."
Minneapolis is now 96-62.
