Freeze Prevail, 3-1, Over Joplin
|
The Minneapolis Freeze picked up a win at The Ice Box, knocking off the Joplin Fireballs, 3-1. Starting pitcher Felix Martinez, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. In 7 innings, Martinez surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. The Freeze have an impressive 100-52 record.
Had Brandon Campion not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Campion hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Freeze.
"Felix is still learning," said Freeze manager Johnny Vallance. "The sky's the limit for him."
