Swallowtails Nip Cacti, 5-4
|
The State College Swallowtails picked up a win at Albuquerque Sports Stadium, knocking off the Albuquerque Cacti, 5-4. On the mound for State College was right-hander Justin Weathersby. He played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Weathersby, now 9-10. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 7. Alan Jackson earned his 1st save in 2 tries.
State College needed the clutch hitting of Beau McCann to seal the deal. The center fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Swallowtails on top, 5-4. For the game, McCann had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Justin was in control from the top," said State College manager Juan Martinez.
The Swallowtails raised their record to 54-93.
