Joplin Slaps 2-1 Loss on Peoria
|
Juan Manzanares never let Peoria get something going. The Joplin right-hander commanded his splitter in pitching the Fireballs to a 2-1 win. In 7.2 innings, Manzanares surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Earning his 30th save for Joplin was Orlando Sanchez.
Erik Kent had a big solo home run for the Fireballs in the bottom of the first inning. With Joplin leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Mike DeGraffenried and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Fireballs on top, 2-0.
"Some games build character," said Joplin manager Daniel Petro. "Like this one."
The Joplin winning streak has reached 3 games.
