Fireballs Defeat Armadillos, 6-2
|
The Joplin Fireballs topped the Amarillo Armadillos, 6-2, in 10 innings. Joplin second baseman Eric Dyson, in particular, was impressive. He went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI. The winner in relief was Dustin Booth. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Orlando Sanchez closed the game out for Joplin, earning his 29th save.
Edwin Cuevas drove in one run for Joplin. With one out and the game tied in the top of the tenth inning, Cuevas, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2057 draft, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Amarillo hurler Ashton Roberge, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Fireballs a 3-2 lead.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Joplin skipper Daniel Petro.
Joplin bumps their record to 66-76 with the win.
