The Joplin Fireballs licked the Antioch Coal Miners, 8-3. Victor Navedo deserved a big chunk of the credit. The left fielder went 2-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Fireballs. The winner in relief was Arturo Romero. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 4.1 innings. By defeating Antioch, the 6th-place Fireballs improved to 53-69.

With Joplin leading 2-0 in the top of the second, Navedo hit a fastball from Marlon Walton for a 2-run home run. It was his 30th home run of the season and put the Fireballs ahead, 4-0.

"No disrespect to the other team," said Joplin manager Daniel Petro. "But it's nice to get an easy win."
