Getting a good performance from center fielder Jason Whimster, the Tallahassee Captains defeated the Joplin Fireballs, 6-4. Whimster was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles for the Captains. Arend Tarnovius earned the win for Tallahassee. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 8-8. Hisham Kontar was credited with the save for Tallahassee, his 9th of the season.

Tallahassee took a 5-4 lead on Luis Velez's 19th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Velez hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Joplin pitcher Ramon Franco visibly frustrated.

Whimster told a Tallahassee Today reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

At 64-56, the Captains are currently third in the TML AAA Joe Torre Division.
