The Albany Firebirds withstood a fine game by Peoria right fielder Juan Lopez at Capital Grounds, to upend the Caterpillars, 7-6. Lopez was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Albany reliever Mark Buchholz picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1. Kenny Hoyles was tagged with the loss. Albany sits in 6th place in the TML AAA Cito Gaston League at 51-66.

The Firebirds were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 28-year old catcher Carlos Menendez landed a big blow. He turned a 1-2 cutter from Kenny Hoyles into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Capital Grounds denizens into a frenzy and sent the Firebirds home with a thrilling 7-6 win.

"It's great when the crowd is energized," Menendez said.
