Late Rally by Canadians Secures Win
|
The Cairo Sphinx got a sterling performance from pitcher Torikatzu Nishiyama, but the Canadians still prevailed, 4-2. Nishiyama was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 8 innings allowing 4 runs. The win was Rogelio Pino's in relief. His record improves to 5-5. Torikatzu Nishiyama took the loss for Cairo. Jose Ramirez closed it out for his 22nd save.
Had Darren Marsh not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Marsh hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Canadians.
In postgame comments to the Vancouver Gazette, Marsh said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Vancouver is 4th in the RCL AAA Bobby Cox Division with a record of 63-72.
