Cacti Subdue Calgary, 5-3
|
Albuquerque Sports Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Calgary Kodiaks and Albuquerque Cacti.
Albuquerque pitcher Carlos Verdugo did his part in helping his team beat the Calgary Kodiaks, 5-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Verdugo, now 6-3, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Picking up the save was John Rudge, his 9th.
The Cacti grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Jake Sandlin hit a solo home run off Pedro Bernal, putting Albuquerque in front, 3-1. For Sandlin, it was his 20th home run of the season.
"I like our moxie," said Cacti manager Matt Wells.
Albuquerque has now won 3 straight, while the Kodiaks have lost 3 in a row.
