Mustangs Slip Past Fairfield, 5-4
|
The Billings Mustangs bested the Fairfield Flash by a score of 5-4, with center fielder Mike Rizzo getting the main credit. On the day, Rizzo went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Mustangs. Billings reliever Kouichi Hayashi was credited with the win, to go to 3-0. Miguel Torres took the loss for Fairfield. The Mustangs saw their record improve to 52-76.
Tied up with the Flash in the bottom of the tenth inning, the Mustangs got a boost from pinch hitter Takahiro Kato. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Kato saw a first pitch fastball from Miguel Torres and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Billings on top, 5-4.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Kato said.
