Vancouver got a strong outing from Mike Ortner as the Pioneers defeated the Pennsylvania Butterflies, 6-1, at The Kaleidoscope. Ortner yielded 1 run over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 5, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-2. The loss puts Pennsylvania at 12-16.
Vancouver took a 6-1 lead on Ryan Welch's 10th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Welch hit in the top of the ninth, left Pennsylvania pitcher Matt York visibly frustrated.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Ortner.
