Coal Miners Win at Astoria, 6-3
|
The Coal Miners had to overcome a fine performance from Astoria pitcher Mark Mommaerts to grab a 6-3 win at Golden Fleece Park. Mommaerts allowed 1 earned run over 5 innings. Jasper Selvage was the winner. Over 7.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Josh Huntsman earned his 21st save in 22 chances.
The result might have been different for Antioch, had it not been for Bobby Balik. The third baseman produced a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Coal Miners ahead, 2-0. For the game, Balik had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Balik told the Antioch Daily News.
Antioch has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
