Ambition Best Coal Miners in Pitching Duel
|
The Indianapolis Ambition banked on Leo Kirk and he turned in a masterful performance. The left-hander kept the Antioch hitters in check. The final score was 2-1, Ambition. Kirk, the winner, moves to 7-6. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. Mario Vasquez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 8 of 9 save opportunities.
Indianapolis center fielder Vinny Alers contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a forkball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 61st hit of the season and put the Ambition ahead, 2-1.
Alers said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
The first-place Coal Miners dropped to 60-44.
