Tight Tilt Goes to Raiders, 4-3
|
The Joplin Fireballs got a superb performance from left fielder Jamie Thompson, but the Reno Raiders still won the game, 4-3. Thompson was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Earning his 9th save for Reno was Gerry LaForest. Reno's record now stands at 48-73, placing them 5th in the TMLAAA Joe Torre Division.
Kirk Valcourt went 2-4 with a double for Reno. The 31-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Jason Graves. It was his 20th RBI of the season.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Joplin manager Chris Schell, "let me know."
