Skidding Mavericks Lose 6th Straight
|
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Asheville Moonshiners and El Paso Mavericks.
The El Paso Mavericks got a sterling performance from pitcher Edwin Serna, but the Asheville Moonshiners still prevailed, 3-2. Serna threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball. The loss drops El Paso to 11-14.
Asheville used the timely hitting of Unpei Takeshita to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Moonshiners on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Sometimes, you can be too aggressive," said El Paso manager Lorenzo Castillo. "You need to let the game come to you."
