Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Amarillo Armadillos take on the Peoria Caterpillars.

The Peoria Caterpillars defeated the Amarillo Armadillos, 5-3, in part because of catcher George Cronin. Cronin went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Caterpillars. With this game in the books, Peoria is 56-52, Amarillo 56-53.

Jonathan Dawson provided a timely hit. The Peoria center fielder delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the ninth inning to put the Caterpillars on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Peoria manager Leonard Lee. "It's usually not just one thing."
