Bailey Goes Wild, But Coal Miners Win
|
Antioch and Candiac duked it out at Municipal Stadium and the Coal Miners came out victorious.
Candiac got a terrific performance from left fielder Jim Bailey, but it wasn't enough to beat the Antioch Coal Miners. Antioch won the Municipal Stadium contest, 9-6. Bailey was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jasper Selvage earned the win to go to 13-7. He allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Helping the Antioch cause was Brian Martin. In the top of the seventh, the 30-year old left fielder had a run-scoring sacrifice fly to make the score 4-3, Coal Miners.
"We maximized our offense today," said Antioch skipper Hervé Barthélémy. "That makes everyone's life easier."
The 4th-place Coal Miners have won 4 in a row.
